Quick hits from Polar Park for non-baseball fans:

• The WooSox and UMass Memorial Health will host the Firefighter Skin Cancer Screening event from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Polar Park. The screening is open to all Massachusetts firefighters. Registration can be found on the DFS Learning Management System. 

• During each WooSox game, the team recognizes and individual or group as the Heart of Worcester. The University of Massachusetts Medical School, one of the nation’s most respected academic institutions, was honored prior to Saturday’s game. Julie Bowditch, the manager of the UMass Cancer Walk and community fundraising, and Nanette Duquette, the director of advancement administration and community fundraising, were recognized on the field. Thiago Molinari, 10, of Fitchburg, who was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 3 years old, has been cancer free for four years and also was honored.

• Prior to every game the WooSox honor a Hometown Hero. The organization recognized Challenger Little League Clinic and the Mark Fidrych Foundation. Ann Fidrych of Northborough along with the foundation’s citizenship award winners, Gianni Colonero, Chase Collins, Michael Warwick and Kyle Daunis were honored on the field.

• Matt Toon of the 4H Club’s Camp Marshall in Sturbridge participated in the ceremonial first pitch. Also throwing out a first pitch was Declan McNally, 4, of Leicester.
