The Pascagoula Fire Department hosted a senior health and safety fair for adults 55 years of age and older at the Pascagoula Senior Center.
Over 16 businesses set up booths to inform seniors and their family members on health, wellness, and safety. The purpose of the event was to connect area seniors with local services in an easier setting.
Seniors gained knowledge on healthy eating, avoiding scams, and home health care. Pascagoula Senior Center Coordinator Mary Cooper said, “It’s very convenient for seniors to have these services. People call here all the time looking for services. I know personally I didn’t know how to help my parents when they got older. So, it helps get information to the family as well. We invited everyone, not just seniors, to this event because sometimes the seniors can’t reach out to people. They are not good with the phone or not good with the computer. So, this is just an opportunity for them to get information in lots of people’s hands.”
Door prizes and light snacks were available for attendees.
